Privacy Policy

Effective March 1, 2026 · Last updated March 2026

The Short Version

Wocket collects very little data about you. We don't have user accounts. We don't ask for your name, email, or any personal information. We don't sell data. We don't use tracking cookies.

What We Collect

Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics to understand how people use Wocket — things like page views, general traffic patterns, and performance metrics. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual users.

Server logs: Like most web services, our servers automatically log basic request information (IP addresses, timestamps, URLs requested). These logs are used for debugging and security, and are not used for tracking or marketing.

Search queries: When you search for a building address, that query is sent to our backend to retrieve data. We may log queries for performance monitoring but do not associate them with individual users.

AI Chat Conversations

When you use Wocket's AI chat feature, your messages are sent to OpenAI for processing. This is how we generate responses to your questions about buildings.

We do not store your chat conversations long-term. However, messages are transmitted to and processed by OpenAI's API, which is subject to OpenAI's privacy policy. We recommend reviewing their policy if you have concerns about how your messages are handled on their end.

Tip: Avoid sharing personal or sensitive information in the chat. It's designed for questions about buildings, not for personal matters.

Cookies

Wocket uses only essential cookies required for the site to function (such as theme preferences). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party marketing cookies.

Building Data Is Public Record

The building data displayed on Wocket — violations, complaints, permits, ownership records, and so on — is sourced from publicly available NYC government datasets. This information is already public record. We are presenting it in a more accessible format, not creating or collecting private data about buildings or their occupants.

No Data Selling

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Period.

Third-Party Services

Wocket relies on a few third-party services to operate:

  • Vercel — hosts the frontend and provides analytics
  • Railway — hosts the backend API
  • OpenAI — processes AI chat conversations
  • NYC Open Data (Socrata) — source of building data

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them if you have specific concerns.

Children's Privacy

Wocket is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone (no accounts, no sign-ups), this is largely a non-issue — but we want to be clear about it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top. Since we don't have user accounts or email addresses, we can't notify you directly — so we encourage you to check back occasionally.
